Ayer visitamos la obra "Centro de Día AFA-Conil" / Yesterday we visited the construction site of the "AFA-Conil Day Care Center"
Esta visita la realizamos junto con los familiares, socios y miembros de la Junta directiva de la asociación, la diputada y técnicos del Área de Infraestructuras y Obras de la Diputación de Cádiz, y varios concejales del Ayuntamiento de Conil. / The visit took place along with relatives of the patients, members of the association's board of directors, politicians and technitians of the Diputacion de Cádiz and some of the city council members.

Breve descripción del proyecto / Short brief of the project:

Este Centro de Día para enfermos de Alzheimer, con capacidad para 60 usuarios, surge de la colaboración de la Asociación AFA-Conil y la Diputación de Cádiz. Los condicionantes de partida son un programa dependiente de la normativa tipológica y de la experiencia de la asociación, un presupuesto muy ajustado y la previsión de su construcción por fases a través de programas de empleo que condiciona las soluciones constructivas. Como reto creativo colaboramos muy cercanos a todas las partes para encontrar colectivamente las soluciones óptimas. La propuesta es una "casa" en torno a los espacios de convivencia: las salas de estar, los patios y el comedor; que se expande a zonas exteriores de esparcimiento y actividad. / This  Day Care Center for people with Alzheimer's disease, for 60 patients, is a collaboration between the Asociación AFA-Conil and the Diputación de Cádiz. The starting points for this proposal are a project brief that depends on the strict outlines of the building's technical requirements as well as the association's own experience, a tight budget and the phasing of its construction, managed through public employment programs, all of which infuences the construction methods used. The creative challenge is to work closely along with all those involved in search of the optimum solutions. The proposal is a  "house" built around its communal spaces: living rooms, patios and dinning room all of which expand outdoors towards the active recreational grounds.

Hoy hemos asistido a la presentación del libro Transversal editado por el Centro de Iniciativas Culturales de la Universidad de Sevilla (CICUS) y con la colaboración del Instituto de la Cultura y las Artes de Sevilla (ICAS).

Este libro recopila las propuestas que se presentaron al concurso La Transversal de la BIACS, el cual fue organizado con motivo de la BIACS3-YOUniverse (3 edición de la Bienal de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla).
Nuestra relación con este libro tiene una doble vertiente: por un lado aparece publicada nuestra propuesta Jardin Cent que resultó finalista en dicho concurso, y por otro nuestra participación en la edición del libro, ya que hemos estado a cargo de la idea editorial y la coordinación del proceso.
La apuesta ha sido la de editar un libro-objeto que indaga en las posibilidades materiales de la edición impresa. Encontramos atractivo explotar esta variable diferenciadora del papel frente al incipiente y distinto campo de la publicación digital.
El libro traslada a su estructura el recorrido urbano de intervenciones que en su conjunto establecieron las cinco propuestas expuestas durante la celebración de la BIACS3 en cinco espacios de la ciudad (las fachadas del ICAS y de la Facultad de Bellas Artes en calle Laraña, y los patios del Colegio de Arquitectos, de EMASESA y de la Facultad de Bellas Artes en calle Gonzalo Bilbao). Un itinerario que seguía la traza del eje oeste-este que atraviesa el casco histórico de Sevilla. Los capítulos se organizan como lugares de reflexión, donde se muestra la capacidad de transformación de estos espacios cotidianos, exponiendo tanto lo que fueron, extraordinariamente, durante sesenta y cinco días, como lo que pudieron haber sido. Además de las propuestas se ha podido contar con tres miradas transversales al conjunto de propuestas ganadoras realizadas por tres miembros del jurado: María Teresa Carrasco, Juan Suárez Ávila y Carlos Tapia Martín.
En el proceso, hemos tenido el placer de trabajar junto a Buenos días, proyectos para el entorno en la elaboración del diseño y junto a Anna Zoltowska a cargo de la traducción, además de contar con un maravilloso equipo técnico a cargo de las revisiones de estilo y el ajuste de las imágenes, y con el preciso trabajo de impresión de Imprenta Luque.
Este libro ha sido posible gracias al CICUS, queremos agradecer su apoyo al proyecto y su confianza en nuestro trabajo.

Today we have attended to the presentation of the book Transversal edited by the Centre for Cultural Initiatives of the University of Seville (CICUS) with the collaboration of the Institute for Culture and the Arts fo Seville (ICAS).

The book compiles the proposals that were submitted to the competition known as The Transversal of the BIACS, which was organised within the Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville, BIACS3-Youniverse.
We have a double connection with this book. On the one hand, our proposal Cent Garden, which was a finalist in the competition, is published. On the other we participated in the actual editing of the book, we were in charge of the editorial concept and coordinated the entire process of its making.
The challenge was to edit a book-object that inquires into the material possibilities of printed edition. We found paper an attractive differentiating variable in contrast with the very different and incipient field of digital publications.
The book incorporates into its structure the urban route that the five winning interventions established in five locations of the city (the façades of the ICAS and of the Faculty of Fine Arts on calle Laraña, and the courtyards of the Architect's Institute of Seville, of the headquartes of EMASESA and of the Faculty of Fine Arts on calle Gonzalo Bilbao) during the celebration of the BIACS3. This itinerary followed the line of the West-East axis which crosses historic centre of Seville. The chapters are organised as spaces for reflection, in which the capacity of transformation of each of these everyday locations can be seen, showing what they became, in an extraordinary way, for sixty five days, as well as what they could have been. Besides showing all the proposals, in the book there have been included three transversal looks taken at the group of winning proposals by three of the members of the competition's jury: María Teresa Carrasco, Juan Suárez Ávila and Carlos Tapia Martín.
Throughout the process of making this book it has been our pleasure to work along with Buenos días, proyectos para el entorno as designers, Anna Zoltowska as the translator, a great technical team in charge of text and image editing, as well as the printing and binding precision work of Imprenta Luque.The book has been made possible thanks to the trust CICUS put in our work and the support received from them for this project.

Tiempos: la obra avanza / Timings: the building is under construction

Por nuestra corta experiencia y los comentarios de compañeros, el tiempo que suele transcurrir entre un concurso ganado, el encargo del proyecto, su redacción y revisiones, el proceso de licitación y el desarrollo de la obra en sí, se dilata y pasan bastantes años. En este caso, enmarcado en el Plan E, hace apenas un año ganábamos el concurso, en el mes posterior se entregó el proyecto y ahora las obras avanzan a buen ritmo. Sin embargo en otro proyecto para este mismo proceso pasaron seis años. La gestión del tiempo y cómo influye en el proyecto, para nosotros, forma parte del reto creativo.

Our short experience and the comments of our colleagues, tell us that the time that goes by between the moment a competition is won, the project is commissioned, it is written up, it is revised, the bidding process takes place and it is built, often stretches and several years go by. In this case, within the context of the Plan E, it was barely a year ago when we won the competition, within a month we had drawn up the project and now construction is well under way. However for another project this same process lasted six years. For us, time management and how it influences the project is part of the creative challenge.

Breve descripción del proyecto/ short brief of the project:

El programa propuesto se apila (sala de estudio municipal y aulas, usos que conllevan altos grados de sociabilidad). Un vestíbulo vertical producto de la “destrucción Matta-Clarkiana” de forjados y huecos interconecta las plantas, a la vez que éstas se desplazan entre sí generando espacios exteriores en todos los niveles… / We pile up the uses given in the project brief (a large study hall for students of all ages and a series of classrooms, uses accompanied by high levels of sociability). A vertical lobby, the product of the “destruction” of the floor slabs and openings in a Gordon Matta-Clark manner, interconnects the different levels, while these slip against each other generating outdoor spaces at different elevations…
