El pasado jueves 23 de octubre estuvimos en el IV Foro Arquia/Próxima que se celebró en Granada. En primer lugar y brevemente nos gustaría felicitar a todos los que tomaron parte de un modo u otro en esta edición: premiados, seleccionados, catalogados, participantes, jurado, organizadores, público presente y virtual,... Pasamos una jornada y unos días posteriores realmente buenos, ¡gracias! Al final de la jornada del jueves recogimos el catálogo que se entrega como obsequio a todos los asistentes al foro.
La acción ¿Qué es arquitectura? es una de las 120 realizaciones catalogadas. Su presencia en el libro es principalmente texto y se acompaña de cuatro imágenes: tres detalles del libro y la llamativa copia amarilla de la instancia de registro de la entrega al Ministro. Para Arquia-Próxima hicimos una lectura transversal de los contenidos del libro-propuesta, de las citas y reflexiones recogidas durante la acción, y propusimos una respuesta a la pregunta ¿Qué es arquitectura? La pregunta y esta respuesta mash-up encabezan el texto que ahora se acaba de publicar:
En el catálogo, además de su doble página, el trabajo también se menciona en la Conclusión escrita por Eva Franch, la comisaria de esta edición. Así dice:
Es un honor para nosotros que un trabajo nuestro haya sido catalogado en esta edición, nos alegra especialmente haber descubierto, con la lectura del catálogo, las palabras que dedica la comisaria a la acción en el texto conclusión. En el fondo, si algo busca esta acción, que desarrollamos de manera voluntaria, sin atender a un encargo concreto y en evolución, es provocar reflexiones. Gracias Eva.
En estos días que estamos leyendo el catálogo, también estamos subrayando algunas frases que bien podrían ser respuestas y reflexiones al hilo de la pregunta enunciada, pero eso lo dejamos para más adelante, para el devenir y evolución de este trabajo.
En octubre la pregunta ¿Qué es arquitectura? —que siempre entendimos como abierta y como tal planteamos el proceso colectivo del libro-protesta— ha vuelto con fuerza al centro de nuestros escritorios, con esta presencia en el catálogo de Arquia/Próxima, y en la muestra ARQUITECTURA DISPUESTA en el Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC); donde además de exponerse, los visitantes pueden llevarse postales-souvenir del viaje del libro de Granada a Madrid y dejar nuevas respuestas a la pregunta ya que el libro ha vuelto abrirse tomando la forma de un cuaderno con hojas en blanco. El camino de la pregunta y el libro continuará, seguimos dándole rodaje ¡pronto esperamos poder contaros novedades!

Last Thursday October 23 we attended the fourth forum of the event, this year held in Granada. To begin with and very briefly we would like to congratulate all of those involved in the event in one way or another: those awarded, selected and cataloged as well as the participants, selection committee, organizers and the physically present as well as the virtual audience. We enjoyed the session as well as the days that followed. Thanks! On Thursday, as the event closed, we picked up our copies of the catalog, handed out to those who participated in the session.
The action ¿Qué es arquitectura? [What is architecture?] is one of 120 cataloged works. Its presence in the publication is basically text along with four images: three photographs of the book and the flashy yellow form given to us at the registry of the Ministry. For Arquia-Próxima we read through the protest-book diagonally, across the collection of quotes, and came up with a possible answer to the question What is architecture? This answer is a mash-up using some of those quotes. The question and this mash-up introduce the text published in the catalog:
Our work appears not only in its assigned pages of the catalog, but it is also mentioned in the Conclusion, written by Eva Franch, the curator of this edition of the event. She writes:
It is an honor for us to have our work appear in this catalogue, and we were especially thrilled to discover, through detailed reading, the words that the curator dedicates to this action in her conclusion. The goal of this proposal—carried out voluntarily and not as a product of a commission—is, after all, to provoke critical thought. Thank you Eva.
Presently, while going through the catalogue, we are underlining some sentences that may as well be answers and thoughts regarding the question we have formulated. We will go back to this, as the protest-book evolves.
It looks like this month of October the formulation What is architecture?—which we always regarded as an open question and as such is the way we understand the protest-book— has returned to our desks in full force, both with its inclusion in the Arquia/Próxima catalogue and in the exhibition ARQUITECTURA DISPUESTA at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo - CAAC, where besides showing the book visitors can take postcards, created for the show, of its transit from Granada to Madrid and write their answers to the question in a notebook with blank pages. And the journey of the book does not end here, we are now breathing more life into it and we hope to be able to tell you more about its new adventures soon!

Señor Ministro, arquitectura es... de kauh arquitectos, es un proyecto que pretende establecer un diálogo con las estructuras de poder y pone en evidencia la clara desconexión actual entre el cuerpo político y el cuerpo arquitectónico —presuponiendo y reduciendo en dichos cuerpos lo peor de los políticos y lo mejor de los arquitectos. La preconcepción por parte de los estamentos políticos sobre el rol del arquitecto y el valor de la arquitectura dentro de un programa político, pocas veces permite al arquitecto ir más allá de la fabricación de iconos de dudosa significación o de proyectos especulativos de urbanización. Sólo en contadas ocasiones hay políticos capaces de entender el rol social, cívico y territorial del pensamiento y la práctica arquitectónica» [2]

The action ¿Qué es arquitectura? [What is architecture?] is one of 120 cataloged works. "If we need to define architecture—(which) is not necessarily a building—perhaps it would be... a way of imagining... happily... spaces which reflect a society's ambitions during a certain period of time or that satisfy its primordial needs... it is the expansion of the body...(by) means of reinventing... through collaborative practice...(that) which can only exist in a single way... a kind of vehicle... a sequence...(capable of) establishing moving relationships (within a) humanized space (that) offers a plurality of sensations... and builds... the framework for an intelligent way of life"[1]

"With writing comes dialectics: ¿Qué es arquitectura Señor Ministro, arquitectura es... [What is architecture? Dear Minister, architecture is...] by kauh arquitectos, is a project that aims to establish a dialogue with the powers that be and reveals the distinct gap that currently exists between the political body and the architectural body—assuming and synthesizing into those bodies the worst side of politicians and the best side of architects. The preconception that the political establishment has regarding the architect's role and the value given to architecture within a political agenda rarely allows architects to go beyond creating icons of questionable meaning or speculative development projects. Very rarely are there politicians who are capable of understanding the civic-minded, social and territorial role of architectural thought and practice." [2]
